Jeanna Lurie, E-RYT 500, RPYT found her passion for supporting new families when she became a mom for the first time in 2001. Her career started as a doula and birth educator - prenatal yoga was added to the mix in 2004 upon completion of the Whole Birth Yoga certification. Shortly thereafter, she completed her 200-hour certification through Avalon Yoga, added three additional prenatal certifications (through Santa Barbara Yoga Center in 2007, Expanding Light/Nicole DeAvilla in 2007, and Nine Moons/Candace Garrett in 2012), completed Leslie Howard’s Pelvic Floor Yoga™ teacher certification, and finally accomplished her long-awaited 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher status through Samyama’s Dharma Path Teacher Training in 2018. Living by the motto “never stop learning,” Jeanna participated in Gil Hedley’s Integral Anatomy lab in 2019, and continues to study Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras with Beth Hinnen.
While establishing her practice as a yoga teacher, Jeanna served as Program Manager at Blossom, a non-profit resource center for new and expectant families in Palo Alto, CA. Building the yoga program from just five weekly classes to 20 was just one of her many accomplishments during her 11-year tenure. This experience gave her unique insight to train new pre and postnatal teachers, and in 2016 she co-founded Lotus Blossom Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training with her colleague, Hillary Easom.
Jeanna has been teaching pre & postnatal yoga consistently since 2004 at a variety of Bay Area locations, including Yoga @ Cindy’s in Sunnyvale where she was the resident pre/postnatal teacher for ten years. Currently, Jeanna offers a comprehensive yoga program, online and in-person, for new and expectant parents. She offers private sessions, most notably in Pelvic Floor Yoga™, and is part of the teaching faculty for UCSF’s LILA study (Lessening Incontinence through Low-impact Activity), researching the effectiveness of yoga to address female urinary incontinence.
Despite all of her formal training and experience, Jeanna’s three children, born 2001, 2008, and 2010, have taught her the most about “True Self,” reminding her the value of mindfulness every single day. When she is not parenting or teaching yoga, Jeanna loves seeing live music, being outdoors, reading, watching Giants baseball, and eating gourmet food (especially ice cream), especially with her partner, Kevin.
