I grew up in Nigeria, West Africa and was passionate about movement, fitness and emotional wellbeing from a young age. I began practicing yoga in 2002 and have been teaching Vinyasa, Forrest and Restorative yoga styles since 2010. I discovered this amazingly healing practice while earning a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Urban Studies at Temple University and received my yoga-teaching certification in Seattle, Washington by studying with world-renowned teacher, Ana Forrest. I currently teach in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital and also offer private sessions at client’s homes and at my personal studio in University City, Philadelphia. I am especially passionate about bringing wellness practices like yoga, exercise and meditation to people who would not usually have easy access to these practices such as people who have had amputations, those in wheelchairs and older adults with limited mobility. In 2011, I was awarded a grant by the Puffin Foundation to teach yoga and creative writing to clients of the non-profit Women in Transition (WIT), an organization serving women with a history of domestic violence and substance abuse. My love of music and dance inspired me to become a Zumba teacher in 2012. I am also an accomplished dancer, visual artist and vocalist who has performed in the United States, Nigeria and Canada.
I specialize in Forrest Yoga, a style that balances active sequences of movement and longer holding of poses to build both strength and flexibility in the body. Each class focuses on specific areas and issues while toning the system as a whole, giving special attention to alignment. Deep breathing and abdominal exercises work to fortify the core, helping students go deeper into poses and feel sensations that often go unnoticed-a great practice for clearing toxins from the system, healing from injury, relaxing the mind and energizing the spirit. I am also inspired by the teachings of B.K.S Iyengar, the delicious release of Yin Yoga and the relaxing effects of Restorative Yoga.
