Carol Maloney's journey to founding and launching Well and Wonder Studio is as unique as it is inspiring. Hailing from Iowa, Carol, one of seven siblings, spent her formative years immersed in outdoor sports. Excelling in athletics, she participated in six sports during high school and later pursued basketball at Drake University, where she earned accolades including Miss Hustle and the Coaches Award under the guidance of esteemed coach Lisa Bluder, (now at the University of Iowa).
Side note: Carol went to high school with Caitlyn Clarke’s mom and is still best friends with her aunt!
Embarking on her career after graduating from Drake's School of Journalism, Carol entered the realm of sports broadcasting during a pivotal time for women in the industry. With stints at various television stations in Iowa, she eventually found her stride at the NBC affiliate in Denver, Colorado.
Transitioning to a prominent role as an anchor/reporter at a regional sports network in the nation's capital, Carol's career flourished over the years, working both full-time and part-time while raising two boys in Kensington, Maryland. In 2012, she began her tenure at #1 ranked WRC, News 4 where she rose to become the main Sports Anchor/reporter for the nightly news and morning shows.
In a groundbreaking move, Carol departed NBC to host "The Carol Maloney Show" on ESPN 630, establishing herself as the first woman to helm a sports talk radio program in DC. Her versatility extended to covering the Washington Nationals on MASN during their World Series run in 2019, as well as freelance play-by-play announcing for professional basketball.
Amidst the upheaval brought by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Carol found herself at a crossroads after being laid off. Turning to holistic practices such as breathwork, yoga, and meditation for solace, she discovered a newfound passion for wellness.
Driven by a desire to address the escalating mental health crisis exacerbated by the pandemic, Carol founded Well & Wonder Studio in 2021. Drawing from her own experiences and empathetic understanding of societal needs, the studio aims to provide a nurturing environment devoid of judgment and focused on holistic well-being.
Well & Wonder Studio eschews traditional norms, offering a supportive community space without mirrors or stringent body assessments. With an emphasis on accessibility and affordability, the studio provides yoga mats and props free of charge and prioritizes inclusivity through free consultations and educational resources.
At its core, Well & Wonder Studio is a testament to Carol's unwavering commitment to serving her community and fostering a culture of wellness and resilience. As she affirms, it's not just a studio; it's a beacon of hope and healing in a world navigating unprecedented challenges.
